Amazon.com's Best of 2000
Sliding in alongside her rock sisters Tori Amos and Aimee Mann, Kathy Fisher's edgy, sadly beautiful vocals and alt-rock prowess lay the foundation for True North, her major-label debut. --Michael Wells

While some of the songs included in True North were culled from Fisher's 1999 indie release, One, their major-label debut is a treat for old and new fans alike. À la Tori Amos and Aimee Mann, Kathy Fisher (whose surname serves as the name for the partnership she maintains with keyboardist Ron Wasserman) makes edgy, sadly beautiful alternative rock. The older songs--"Any Way" and "I Will Love You," to name a couple--have been remastered and elegantly integrated into the new album to fit alongside one hook-laden track after another. From "Hello, It's Me," the bold opener, to "Miseryland," a bittersweet ballad, to "Breakable," a compassionate cry for understanding between the sexes that was featured in the Gwyneth Paltrow film Great Expectations, True North unveils a true talent to a broader audience. --Michael Wells
